【能登地震で壊れたモノを未来へ活かす２】
手作業に徹した南部鉄器、茶器、茶葉の店舗空間。茶道文化を確立した利休の時代の空間に学び、SOTOCHIKU空間の創造に徹した。素材は、能登町宇出津からの瓦と木床材、千葉県鋸南町からの梁材と「ペンキのキセキ」鉄板を使用し、さらに入口には被害が甚大な珠洲市正院町の羽黒神社本殿の扉を使用した。まさに魂の宿る素材を使用させていただいた。茶道の魂を伝える空間になっているか？
そして、この空間は能登の人々を元気づける空間になりうるか？

猫の通り道としての空間とは町の空間そのものだ。建物と建物の間には隙間が残り、それが主な猫の通り道になる。機能に従ってモノをつくりながら、むしろ勝手にできあがっていく残される部分こそが気ままに利用されていく自由な空間を目標とした。
能登地震で倒壊した松波酒造から寄付された瓦や木片からは、酒造りに込められた想いが滲み出してくる。能登の祭りの火柱やキリコを想起させるカタチは負の混沌が広がる被災地の現状がそのまま正の混沌へと転換する可能性として立ち現れる。
工場の廃墟の美しさは時間という自然が為した美しさだが、その美しさはその場所でつくる行為がひたすら繰り返されたことによってもたらされたともいえる。ぼくらは白い壁に線を引き、それをまた薄い白で覆う。この行為を最初の描いた線が遠くへ消えていくまで繰り返した。
その壁からは時間を感じられるだろうか？
巷に溢れる、風雨や太陽に晒された、もしくは生命活動の場にあり続けることで「時間や生命の営みを記憶したモノ」を、新しい空間の素材(ソトチク素材)として使用するために、どうやって集めることができるか、が私たちの長年の課題でした。寄付控除の仕組みを利用するアイディアを得たのは2018年のことです。ソトチク素材が空間に与える価値がお金に換えられて、すばらしい活動をされているNPO法人に寄付されることで、ドナーの方々には寄付控除として還元され、ソトチク素材による空間づくりを「三方よし」のプロジェクトとして認められ、2020年には東京都から経営革新計画として承認を受けました。
Our long-standing challenge has been how to collect “objects that have memories of time and the activities of life” that are found all over the city, exposed to wind, rain, and sun, or that have continued to be in places where life is active, in order to use them as materials for new spaces (outdoor materials).The idea to utilize the donation deduction system came to us in 2018. The value that Sotochiku materials add to a space is converted into money and donated to an NPO that is doing wonderful work, and the money is returned to the donors as a donation deduction. Creating spaces using Sotochiku materials has been recognized as a “triple win” project, and in 2020 it was approved as a management innovation plan by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
SOTOCHIKU(ソトチク)は、GRIDFRAMEの代表・田中稔郎のライフワークとして提唱している「あらゆる人が持って生まれた【体一つになっても常に余りある生きる力】を取り戻す空間をつくる」という理念を実現するために考案された空間づくりの手法のひとつです。
SOTOCHIKU is a space-making method devised to realize the philosophy advocated by GRIDFRAME’s representative, Toshiro Tanaka, as his life’s work: “To create a space where all people can regain the vitality they were born with, which is always more than enough, even when they are alone.”

京都大学大学院土木工学、ニューヨーク州立大学大学院建築学で２つの修士課程修了。
１９９８年、GRIDFRAMEを設立。
「汚しうる美」「なるの空間」「創造性の連鎖」そして、「SOTOCHIKU」を提唱。
He completed two master’s degrees, one at Kyoto University Graduate School of Civil Engineering and the other at the State University of New York Graduate School of Architecture. He founded GRIDFRAME in 1998. He advocates “stainable beauty,” “space of becoming,” “chains of creativity,” and “SOTOCHIKU.”
